Well, more and more businesses valuable assets consist of information, technology, confidential information.  It’s not so much bricks and mortar, so if you think about what businesses used to have as far as assets, they would put them behind that fence and lock up that fence and maybe get a guard dog.  Well, a non-compete is really a guard dog for your intellectual property.  To ensure that what’s important to you, your confidential information, your trade secrets aren’t taken from you by employees when they decide to leave and go to a different employer.
