So, I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, got a degree in accounting, went and worked for Arthur Anderson in Houston, Texas, for three years, got my CPA, then on to law school in Austin. Since I got out of Austin Law School, practiced in Chicago, New York and here always as a business and commercial litigator. And what’s the language of business, accounting, finances? I understand that very well, and it’s phenomenally helpful to me to have a CPA background without – and I get into a lotta cases I don’t have to hire experts a lotta times. I do my own forensic accounting.
I love to help people, and one of the things we do is we help people. I mean, we’re in a people business for sure. We’re a law firm, but our clients are people. They’re typically small- to medium-sized closely held companies and their owners, and we get to know them very personally and very well. And they come to us, because they have a problem.
I moved out to L.A. after I was practicing for a couple years and eventually worked for a guy named Bill Ginsberg. Bill Ginsberg got his claim to fame when he represented Monica Lewinsky in the Bill Clinton era, salt-and-pepper hair, bowtie, was on all the talk shows. But that’s not what he did. He was a phenomenal trial lawyer. He was one of the most accomplished trial lawyers in the country, and I would go attend trials with him, and I would see how he handled a jury, see how he handled the judge, the opposing side.
