So I want to back up a little bit; let’s try to address this before the breach even occurs. One thing you should do tomorrow or today is get the proper team in place. You want to have your computer forensics personnel, your PR people, your legal team all set and hope that you never need them. If you do need them and a breach actually occurs, the first thing that you need to do is determine the scope and nature of the incident. We want to know things like how many customers were affected. What caused the incident? Where did these customers live? And once we collect that database that allows us to develop a proper plan of action for you, and more importantly, that will allow you to mitigate the risk and make sure that there’s no more breach occurring once you figure out what happened.
