James Buckley

With over three decades of experience as an attorney, I am proud to be the owner and supervising attorney at Buckley & Associates. At our firm, I am actively involved in training and collaborating with every attorney. Through monthly meetings, we review and discuss each case, and for more complex matters, we engage in roundtable discussions to gather valuable input from all our attorneys. It brings me immense joy to work alongside our dedicated team of clients, attorneys, paralegals, and staff at Buckley & Associates. Furthermore, having my daughter as an attorney at the firm adds an extra layer of fulfillment, as she has consistently excelled and earned accolades for her trial expertise, becoming one of our top trial attorneys.

Upon graduating from law school, I spent three years as a prosecuting attorney in Olympia, Washington. In 1981, I transitioned to private practice, where I served as an associate attorney before becoming a partner in a law firm. In 1983, I established Buckley & Associates in Tacoma, and in 1993, we expanded to open our second office in Seattle.

On a personal note, I grew up near Memphis, Tennessee, and after completing high school, I enlisted in the Army and served as a paratrooper. I dedicated two years of my life to the Vietnam War, during which I received various commendations for my service, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Following my military service, I pursued my studies at Memphis State University and the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 1974. Subsequently, I obtained my Juris Doctorate from the University of Oregon Law School in 1977.

Continuing my commitment to ongoing professional development, I actively participate in seminars and conferences to enhance my legal knowledge. As a trial lawyer, my focus primarily revolves around handling cases involving serious injuries and wrongful death. Additionally, I have served as a former hearing examiner with the Washington State Bar Association and currently act as an arbitrator for King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.

Throughout my career, I have been honored with several prestigious awards, including recognition as a Super Lawyer (2010-2013), Million Dollar Advocate (2002-2012), BV Distinguished Attorney (2012), and inclusion in the Top Attorneys in Washington list (2011-2012). Furthermore, I am proud to hold a perfect 10 rating in Avvo’s attorneys rating system.

As a dedicated member of the legal community, I am affiliated with esteemed organizations such as the American Association for Justice, American Bar Association, Washington State Association for Justice, Snohomish County Bar Association, Seattle King County Bar Association, National Bar Association, Pierce County Bar Association, United States Court of Appeals For the Ninth Circuit, United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, Washington State Bar Association, and others. Notably, I had the privilege of attending the Inauguration of President Barack H. Obama, and I am recognized as one of the top 100 Litigation Lawyers in the State of Washington by the American Society of Legal Advocates.
