In a divorce, in general, there are usually two different ways a court can divide property there’s equitable division states and there are community property states. Georgia happens to be an equitable division state. Equitable just means what’s fair so it’s not necessarily 50-50 in ever case. So that really makes us unique to community property states where it’s just not a math number. The court can take into a variety of factors, the length of the marriage, if one party has significant assets versus another party and make a division that’s not 50-50 as long as its equitable, as long as the court deems its fair then it’s usually going to be upheld so that’s definitely something to consider.
